Song(s) in Production: 'Pray' Recording Sessions

Tuesday - January 20th, 2009: 11am to 2:30pm - Everyone arrived roughly at the same time. We sat around for a bit talking about politics and our (soon to be) new President, then we got down to work.

The day began by listening to last weeks recordings and deciding what we wanted to do for the ending of the song, 'Pray'. We set up the microphone outside in the hallway again where Russ performed the snare drum marches the week before. Within three takes Russ recorded the ending snare drum march for the song.

Afterwords, we set Russ up in the Deadroom and he recorded a tambourine part for the track. Again, the takes came pretty quickly. We fooled around with block and cowbell for the ending as well. After a listen back we all decided it did nothing for the ending and scrapped the idea.

We moved right along to recording a shaker & maraca part for the verse sections of the song. After going around and round about what the part should be...we finally settled on it. After two long weeks of recording all the rhythm parts for, 'Pray' are finished.

So far, the song has all most forty tracks! Next week Rich will lay down his fife part...I'm pretty excited to hear the part he has written. Despite all the antics and goofing around, the day was pretty productive. The mood in the studio...well...look at the photos and decide for yourself!

Until next time, Hutch
