Song(s) in Production: 'Catch Me' Recording Sessions

Tuesday - February 18th, 2009: On this day, we got a bit of a late start. If I recall correctly, Russ and I just talked shop and got all the stuff off our minds in order to concentrate on today's session. We began sound checking around 12:15pm and at 12:30pm recorded Take 1. This take was more about getting the grove back for the song than anything else.

12:30pm - Take 2 had a much better feel but some of the parts weren't right. Russ and I both agreed that the drum tones sounded much bigger than the previous recording session we did on this tune a few years back.

12:40 to 12:45pm - Take 3 had a bunch of weird stuff happening in the guitar solo. Russ threw in a bunch of poly-meter stuff that actually sounded pretty cool. 12:50pm to 1:15pm - Take 4 saw Russ playing a much tighter hi hat part on the song that I liked...but the solo still seemed a bit out of our reach. At 1:30pm - Take 5, Russ wanted to get a pretty straight recording, more for timing than anything else. In this take he really accented the stops in the verses which really brought out the lead riff.

1:35pm to 1:45pm - Take 6: Again more for tightness. Russ really started to get into a groove at this point. He felt with in the next couple of Take we should have a keeper...well...Just when you think you have the right take in you, that is usually when something goes wrong...what went wrong? We ran out of Hard Disk space! Oh well, that just means that we have to come back another day. Just when we were so close.

We'll see what tomorrow brings, Hutch
